The Eastern Food Bazaar
There is a place in Cape Town where a person can choose from an array of the most delicious Indian food, get top class service and still walk out with change in your pockets. I don't think I know of any other place in South Africa where this phenomenon occurs. And I am very grateful that it happens to be around the corner from my studio.
The buzz starts around noon and again at twilight. Businessmen in suits and ladies in clickety-heels pour in for lunch, 'cos lets face it, why would they pack their own when this is yummier and probably cheaper too. For dinner its families and their extended relatives that crowd around the tables. I try to get there just before; it makes it easier to find a chair. The food market opens from 11am and closes at 9pm giving us all day non-stop amazingness.
